Diet Chocolate Pudding box graphic 1940

It seems people, especially women, have been worrying about their weight for centuries.  Whether it was being too skinny (a serious concern in the 1950s and early 1960s!) or too hefty around the hips, ones adherence to the silhouette of the time has always been a concern.  And where there's even a hint of a perceived need, there's always an entire industry ready to fill that need.  Bring on the parade of diet foods!

The diet foods in the early 1940s were both plentiful, and pretty awful tasting.  Never fear - soon war rationing would start, and everyone would be on a diet.  Whatever the actual calories per serving of this Tasti-Diet Chocolate Flavor Diet Pudding were, the graphics on the box are certainly eye catching - so much so that the company used the same graphic well into the 1950s!  The photo of the dish of chocolate pudding topped with whipped cream and a cherry looks tempting, and the stylish beauties striking various poses while doing their 'exercises' give it an air of health and fitness.  Who can resist?  Take our new Sigg Water Bottle sporting this great graphic with you to the gym while wearing one of our zippered hoodies!

Apple Pie 1955

Who doesn't like Mom's apple pie?  Well, I suppose that all depends if Mom has time to bake, or even knows how to.  Back in 1955, of course, we're all led to believe that every Mother was in the kitchen constantly whipping up delectable meals and desserts.  Not like Mom's apple pie?!  Why that's downright Un-American!  You aren't a Commie, are you??

Unkie Monkie Studios Apple Pie 1955 design is just that - a wonderful vintage photograph of a scrumptious slice of apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top taken from a 1955 cookbook.  Who can resist?  Check out our women's t-shirts and spaghetti tank tops sporting this great retro graphic.

Don't worry - we didn't forget the guys!  We've got stylish mens dark t-shirts and hooded sweatshirts as well.  What would a hot slice of apple pie be with out a hot mug of coffee?  Our apple pie small and large coffee mugs are perfect.  On a diet you say?  Can't have pie of any kind in the house?  Nonsense!  Stick one of our round or rectangle magnets on your refrigerator door and just look at it's wholesome 1950s goodness instead!

Encinitas '78

Encinitas, California.  One of the jewels of San Diego's North Coast.  Settled by Jabez Pitcher in 1881 on 160 acres of mesa where the Encinitas Civic Center is now located, this tiny beach town has somehow managed to hold on to it's small town feel in the midst of the suburban sprawl that took over the inland areas of the North Coast in the mid twentieth century.

It is comprised of five different original settlements: Leucadia, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Olivenhain, Old Encinitas centered along the train tracks and New Encinitas centered along the old El Camino Real.  Each area has it's distinct local flavor, and the entire area remains my favorite place on the Southern California coast.  I decided to honor my favorite beach town by creating a retro style graphic incorporating a classic '70s twin fin swallowtail surfboard and a lifeguard shack silhouetted against a giant setting sun.  It looks great on beach totes, t-shirts and coffee mugs.

Cheeseburger 1955

Suddenly, it's barbeque time!  And what says barbeque better than cheeseburgers?  Ok, barbeque spareribs.  Cheeseburgers run a close second in my book.  I found this great vintage photograph in a 1955 cookbook and couldn't resist putting it on just about everything I could think of.  This Tote Bag, for instance.  This design has proved very popular on T-Shirts, especially.
